Passing Down Wisdom

We all carry forward lessons we’ve learned from our parents about foods and nutrition.

Recently I was talking with my mom about the work that I do with families and she told me: “If your brother Peter complained because I made macaroni and cheese (not his favorite) for dinner, I’d remind him that there were other foods (that he did like) served with the mac and cheese and then I’d let him know what we were having the next night—usually something that he liked”.

This is a great example of the Division of Responsibility—-I often look back to how my parents fed us and see how my mom held gentle, but firm, boundaries around feeding my siblings and me.

I may just get my mom to do a guest blog 🙂
