Drinking Milk: A Pediatric RD’s Perspective

I often say to parents “I don’t work for the New England Dairy Council so I don’t care if your kiddo drinks cow’s milk or not.”

This is true! However, I follow that with “But it’s important to me that your kiddo gets the nutrition from another source if they don’t  like milk”.

There are so many cow’s milk alternatives, but they are not nutritionally equivalent to cow’s milk.  Many lack the fat and protein little kids need for brain development and growth.

Two alternatives that get my stamp of approval: soy milk and pea protein milk.  These have nutrition that is most similar to cow’s milk.

Fun fact about me: my dad is a retired dairy farmer 🐮

Snack Idea: Cottage cheese, crackers & cut up fruit (It couldn’t be any simpler 🙂)
