Picky Eating Ripple Effect….
One of the frustrating comments that parents tell me that they hear about their picky eater is “maybe she’ll outgrow it”. Or worse “her growth is fine, don’t worry so much”. These comments, although said to reassure a parent, dismiss the reality that selective eating affects more than just the kiddo.
Sometimes parents share with me that it’s hard to be on the same page as their partner or spouse—-they are bickering with each other just as much as they’re bickering with their kiddo!
So….what to do? After the kiddos go to bed, have what I call a “Parenting Summit”. This is a time for you to find a way to use the same approach & develop common language when parenting your picky eater. You need a “script” so that you’re both saying the same thing and holding the same boundaries. Kiddos will quickly figure out which parent is the “weak link”, so hold on together!
Need some help figuring out how to get on the same page? Reach out, I’m happy to help.
Snack Idea: peanut butter & jelly on a waffle (toast a frozen waffle or make fresh, whichever you have time for)
Please feel free to share this with someone who may like to learn more about feeding kiddos!
