Missing My June Goal
I promised myself that I’d try something new in June. My goal was to plan out an entire month of meals and shop once a week for only the ingredients I needed. I was on a mission to streamline grocery shopping and reduce food waste. June 1 was my start date. Suffice it to say, June is nearly gone and my calendar is still blank….oh man.
I had every intention of catching up on this task during the early weekends of the month, but life has a way of coming between me and my meal planning goal. Some errands floated to the top of my list and other things took priority. Like planting flowers (fun) and cleaning out the shed (not fun).
Last weekend my nephew got married and my kids, hubby and I drove several hours north for the wedding. Skies were grey and drizzly, but the sun came out after the ceremony, just in time for the lakeside reception. I had a wonderful day, dancing with my siblings, meeting new folks and eating delicious cake! As an added bonus to this weekend celebration, my oldest brother, who I hadn’t seen in several years, flew in to attend! (Photo below-one brother missing)
Because I gave myself over to my family for an entire weekend, this past week was a bit of a scramble—eating leftovers, cereal and cheese omelets. So this weekend, it’s back to my routine of laundry & roasting veggies for lunches and tonight I’ll sit down with a blank calendar to begin some July meal planning.
I could beat myself up about missing the mark (a whole month!) and throw in the towel. But I’ll give myself a quick pep talk and remember that it will take practice to develop and stick with a new routine. July is another opportunity to practice.
I read somewhere recently that “practice does not make perfect, practice makes progress“. I like that. I’m going to get back to my goal of monthly meal planning and practice making it part of my routine.
PS- You may have noticed that I didn’t get a blog out last week. Sorry about that–family came before work last weekend 🙂
PPS- Today is my youngest kiddo’s 20th Birthday! (HBD Tootsie-xoxo)
