Is It A “Hack”?

My favorite way to include a picky eater in the family meal

Parents often tell me: I just want my family to eat the same meal! Moms and Dads are tired of making multiple meals and dream about everyone sitting down dinner together and eating the same thing.

Here’s a quick “hack”: Serve dinner “family style” so that everyone gets to serve themselves what they’d like. For example: Make Your Own Salad Night could mean dishes and bowls of all types of foods that might be put together to make a salad. It could include your basics like lettuce, tomato and cucumber. But it can also include hard boiled eggs, nuts, croutons, shredded cheese and leftover chicken. Get crazy and include blueberries & diced apples, dried cranberries, olives, pickles and pumpkin seeds!

Everybody gets to create their own salad, which kids love!

Serving family style might mean more dirty dishes. It’s the perfect opportunity to create after-dinner chores such as clear the table, load the dishwasher, wrap up leftovers, wipe down the counters and table.

Dinner: done. Kitchen: cleaned. You’ve just won the night!

Snack Idea:

1/2 toasted bagel and a handful of fresh blueberries
