Gather: More Than a Food Pantry
Gather, formerly known as the Seacoast Family Food Pantry, is so much more than a place to get food
When I established my private practice 12 years ago, I decided that it was important for me to be involved in some way in the Seacoast Community. As a food & nutrition expert, it made sense to reach out and volunteer at Gather.
Gather, formerly known as Seacoast Family Food Pantry which was established in 1816, is a Portsmouth-based anti-hunger organization that does so much more than distribute canned goods.
Gather not only distributes emergency food, it provides community through its Mobile Markets, Meals For Kids, its Cafe at Great Bay College and Cooking For Community to name a few of the innovative ways that Gather connects to folks who need food assistance.
Gather needs volunteers to meet the high demand of their community activities. There are many different ways of volunteering at Gather: picking up Fresh Rescue food from participating grocery stores and restaurants, sorting donations, cooking farm-fresh foods leftover after harvest season or assisting with food drives.
On October 6th, Gather is moving from its current location on West Road to a newly built Community Food Center at 124 Heritage Ave. The move will allow Gather to offer more programs and has a commercial grade kitchen, community gathering spaces and ADA accessibility.
