What Can You Say to Grandparents Who Are Pressuring Your Picky Eater?
I get this question all the time. What can we say when grandparents pressure our kids to eat just one bite!
If you can, prep your parents to keep Thanksgiving dinner pressure free. Explain to them that you’d like today to be fun for everyone and ask for their help.
Grandparents love to help!
Say something like: Mom, you know how eating is tricky for Jane? Well, she’s a bit anxious about all the new foods so can you help her feel more comfortable by not pressuring her?
If well-meaning family members are pressuring your picky eater in the moment, you can say: Thanks, but we’re trying something new and are keeping in low key today. We’re letting Jane choose her own food and how much to eat.
Holding the boundary with a smile will help to keep the day lighter and enjoyable for everyone.
Snack Idea:
Tortilla chips and salsa
(did you know salsa counts as a veggie?)
