Karen Mountjoy, a Registered and Licensed New Hampshire dietitian, earned her degree in dietetics from the University of New Hampshire. After completing her Dietetic Internship through UNH, Karen founded Coastal Family Nutrition, a practice dedicated to providing healthy nutritional programs to children and families throughout the Seacoast region. Prior to entering the Nutrition field, Karen was a Special Education Teacher in the Seacoast area.
Karen recognizes that diet and nutrition play a key role in adolescent growth, development, and overall wellness. She works with children of all ages facing common or more complicated food, feeding, and swallowing challenges. As a lifelong education and child advocate, Karen blends her extensive experience as an educator and pediatric dietitian to deliver compassionate, personalized support plans that help her young clients achieve and sustain dietary balance.
Karen's nutritional philosophy is that healthy intake choices should be based on personal preferences and, most importantly, food should be enjoyed. Karen uses this approach to connect with both clients and their families as they work together to identify readiness for change and to develop individualized, flexible plans that meet specific physiological, emotional, and economic needs.
Lauren, Business Administrator
Lauren Levenson joined Coastal Family Nutrition in 2019. She is a business and wellness professional with a degree in Marketing from Clemson University, and master’s degree in Health and Nutrition Education from Hawthorn University. Though you may chat with her over email or phone, you won’t actually see her most of the time - she’s busy making sure everything behind the scenes run smoothly!
When Lauren isn't at the office, you can usually find her engaged in one of the following activities (depending on the season!): gardening, walking or going on hikes with her dog, Hudson, checking out the Portsmouth Farmers Market, photography, cooking, and skiing with her husband, Jacob.
Coastal in the Community
At Coastal Family Nutrition, Karen isn't only involved with her practice; she also strives to connect and engage with the entire Seacoast NH community as much as possible. She has lived in Portsmouth, NH for 20+ years and is currently raising her family of three teenagers here. Karen is also an avid runner who completes several Seacoast road races every year as part of her personal goal to promote and encourage health and wellness with friends and neighbors in the area.
Coastal Family Nutrition participates in a wide range of local Seacoast community events and activities. Karen humbly volunteers at Gather, a Seacoast family food pantry to help local residents of all ages access healthy, nutritionally balanced meals. Additionally, she co-facilitates the "Food & Love" series, a 5-week program designed for 6th and 7th grade girls and their moms to build healthy habits together, with Lifestyle & Wellness Coach, Tara Whitney.
Karen has been a member of the Board of Directors at the Museum of New Art in Portsmouth, NH since 2010, where she blends her love of art with experience as a businessperson.
